STEM Fun at Rancho Los Cerritos with Shared Science
FEBRUARY 15: Shared Science will be onsite at Rancho Los Cerritos for a Long Beach History and STEM Education lesson. This is a student/parent visit. Students will explore how water moves and learn why water was so important on a working ranch as they do a hands-on activity with herbs in the garden. Students will also build and test a simple machine that moves water up an incline.

JANUARY 18: Shared Science will be onsite at Rancho Los Cerritos for a Long Beach History STEM education lesson. This is a student/parent visit. A Rancho Los Cerritos docent will guide students in an adobe construction activity. Then, alongside a Shared Science instructor, students will create a LEGO robotics earthquake simulator platform, further exploring structural stability.

Outdoor STEM Education at Rancho Los Cerritos with Shared Science
THURSDAY, MARCH 18: Shared Science will be onsite at Rancho Los Cerritos for a Long Beach History and STEM education lesson. Students will learn how to keep perishable foods—like milk and fruit— from spoiling without refrigeration and also make their own butter. Students will explore different preservation techniques and discuss their ideas about food storage without electricity.

FRIDAY, APRIL 9: Shared Science will be onsite at Rancho Los Cerritos for Optical Illusions STEM fun! Students will learn about stereoscopes, thaumatropes, and create their own stop-action films using iPads. This activity is designed for grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Outdoor STEM Education at Rancho Los Cerritos
THURSDAY, MAY 20: Learn how adobes are maintained and how to repair sun-dried bricks. Students will also explore how water can lead to erosion and experiment with different ways of minimizing that type of environmental damage.

Shared Science Present “What’s All That Shaking?” at Rancho Los Cerritos
DECEMBER 28: Shared Science and Rancho Los Cerritos are teaming up for a Long Beach History and STEM education lesson. A Rancho Los Cerritos educator will guide students in an adobe construction activity, and a Shared Science instructor will help students create a LEGO robotics earthquake simulator testing platform. Workshop fee: $12.
Robo-Tech Fest in Long Beach with Shared Science
APRIL 14: Shared Science is hosting their annual Robo-Tech Festival in celebration of National Robotics Week at Long Beach City College (LAC Campus). Parents and children of all ages are invited to participate in short, fun workshops that explore STEM topics.
