Aquarium of the Pacific
The aquarium is currently open, featuring only its outdoor areas including Harbor Terrace, Moon Jelly Touchpool, Shark Lagoon, Lorikeet Forest, Our Water Future, Southern California Steelhead Story, Molina Animal Care Center, June Keyes Penguin Habitat, Ray Habitat Touchpool, Seals and Sea Lions, and Shorebird Sanctuary.
They are also offering their Penguin Encounter program, where families can visit the penguin exhibit before the Aquarium opens and sit up close while a penguin waddles around outside the exhibit.
Visit the Aquarium’s more than 12,000 ocean animals, including jellies, penguins, sea otters and shark touch pools, and explore Pacific Visions, the Aquarium’s first major expansion. It features a state-of-the-art theater, and gallery with game tables, interactive displays, and live Animal Ambassadors, where kids can explore ways to create a better future for our planet.
Immerse yourself in Lorikeet Forest – purchase a small cup of nectar, the lorikeets’ favorite food – the birds will land on your hand or even your head to get a sip of sweet nectar. Visit the large, outdoor touch pool, for the chance to put “two fingers” on bamboo sharks, epaulette sharks, fiddler rays, and cownose rays.
Parent and Me classes (ages 2-6, with parent), Junior Biologist (ages 7-12), Job Shadow (ages 13-17), and Animal Encounters (ages 10+) are offered, as well as whale watching and family sleepovers!
January – June, get up close with the ocean’s ultimate predators for free during Shark Lagoon Nights. Guests have the opportunity to touch smaller sharks, and see large sharks at the Shark Lagoon exhibit on select Friday evenings.
Educational programs, birthday parties, and camps are also offered. Visit their website for more events and special promotions.
Kidsguide Tip: The Aquarium’s family membership (including their grandparent version) is a great value!
