Public Star Party | Griffith Observatory, Los Angeles

Saturday, December 19

Saturday, September 19, 2026

Look at the Sun, Moon, visible planets, and other celestial objects through a variety of telescopes at this free monthly star party at Griffith Observatory.

Try out different telescopes and chat with knowledgeable amateur astronomers about the night sky and their equipment. Volunteer astronomers from several local astronomy clubs are on hand to guide viewing throughout the afternoon and evening.

Note that telescope lines will be cut off before 9:45pm to ensure all viewing is completed on time — telescope hours are separate from the building’s general hours.

What to expect:

  • Solar viewing in the afternoon
  • Moon and planet viewing
  • Variety of telescopes to try
  • Volunteer astronomers to answer questions

This is a free, family-friendly event open to the public. No registration is mentioned — arrive early, as telescope lines close before 9:45pm.
