Happy Moon Festival | Mathis Home, Irvine

Friday, September 25

Saturday, September 25, 2026

Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with a free afternoon of arts, crafts, cultural performances, and games at Mathis Home in The Market Place.

Paint a folding fan, palace fan, or paper umbrella, build a 3D mini Moon Festival puzzle, or create a cartoon lantern to take home. Try hands-on Chinese calligraphy — choose a bookmark, scroll, or palace fan, practice with brush and ink, and leave with a handmade keepsake.

Snack on authentic mooncakes and Chinese tea while learning about Moon Festival traditions. Play pot toss, ring toss, or take on the lantern riddle challenge, spin to win a lucky prize, and make a wish at the wishing tree.

Live performances round out the celebration: a dragon and lion dance at 4:30pm, followed by a traditional Chinese instrumental set featuring a guzheng and pipa duo from 5pm – 6pm.

Activities include:

  • Fan, umbrella, and lantern crafts
  • 3D mini Moon Festival puzzle

  • Mooncake and tea tasting
  • Pot toss and ring toss
  • Lantern riddle challenge
