The Ocean Institute hosts the Girls in Ocean Science Conference, a one-day event designed for middle school and high school students interested in marine science careers.
Connect with influential female scientists and explore education and career pathways in ocean science. Participate in hands-on workshops in lab spaces and aboard the R/V Sea Explorer, and hear from professionals working in aquarium management, restoration, marine research, and conservation. The conference runs from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Featured speakers include Cindy Belkowiche (aquarium management and environmental education), Nancy Caruso (kelp and Pismo clam restoration), Brittany Loust (educational research vessel captain), Savannah Torgerson (naturalist and educator), and Emma Newcomb (marine mammal rescue and veterinary research). Girl Scouts (Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors) can purchase an add-on to complete requirements for the STEM Career Exploration Badge and receive the physical badge at the conference.
