Holiday Family Fun Returns to Mission San Juan Capistrano with an All-New Digital Projection Light Show
This December, Mission San Juan Capistrano will welcome guests to one of the season’s most anticipated traditions, Capistrano Lights: Mission in Lights. From December 18 through December 30, 2026, select evenings will transform the historic Mission into a festive holiday experience filled with history, music, lights, seasonal programming, and special moments for the whole family.
The highlight of this year’s Capistrano Lights will be the debut of The Story of the Mission: In Sound and Light, a new digital projection experience that will bring 250 years of Mission history to life through sound, light, and immersive visuals.
Beginning nightly at 6:15 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m., the projection will invite visitors to experience the Mission’s story in a new way, connecting its historic architecture and grounds with the people, traditions and history that will have shaped this landmark for generations. The presentation will be part of the Capistrano Lights experience and will be especially meaningful during the Mission’s 250th anniversary year.
A Capistrano Lights visit will offer more than an evening of holiday entertainment. Admission will include all-day access to the Mission from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., giving members and their guests an opportunity to explore the historic grounds before the evening festivities begin.
Visitors will encounter the Mission in lights, a full-scale nativity in the Ruins of the Great Stone Church, selfies with Santa (through December 23rd), community Christmas trees, prayer candles, holiday music, Dickens-era carolers, seasonal crafts, extended holiday shopping in the Mission Store and so much more.
