The Aquarium of the Pacific just opened a new sea turtle rehabilitation area, and visitors can now see rescued sea turtles while they recover and get ready to return to the ocean.
The new space helps the Aquarium care for more stranded or injured sea turtles and helps families learn how rescue and conservation work happens in real life.
Quick Answers
Can you see rescued sea turtles now?
Yes! Guests can see sea turtles during rehab and learn about how they’re cared for.
Why is this new space a big deal?
It doubles how many sea turtles the Aquarium can help.
How long has the Aquarium been helping sea turtles?
Since 2000, with many turtles successfully released back into the wild.
What’s New in the Rehab Area
- About a 4,000-gallon rehab pool for rescued sea turtles
- Displays that explain rescue, rehab, and release
- More space to care for turtles found around Southern California
The Aquarium recently released a rehabilitated green sea turtle in 2025 and is currently caring for two more with the goal of release.
Why This Matters
All sea turtles found in U.S. waters are listed as endangered or threatened. Rescue and rehab programs help give injured turtles a second chance and help scientists learn more about how to protect them.
