Photo: LEGO Group
This Sunday, March 22, 2026, Target and the LEGO Group are bringing a free, all-ages pop-up to Los Angeles — and it’s not just a table with a few bricks. We’re talking a giant LEGO SMART Brick installation, life-size Star Wars sets, hands-on builds, and the very first public look at LEGO’s new SMART Play™ technology.
The Force is strong with this one.

What Is the LEGO SMART Play™ Pop-Up?
It’s a one-day interactive experience set up right in the Target parking lot at La Cienega — free to attend, no ticket needed. Families get a first look at LEGO’s most ambitious tech launch in decades, wrapped inside a Star Wars-themed playground.
✔️ Giant SMART Brick installation — step inside a life-size version of LEGO’s new SMART Play tech
✔️ Life-size LEGO Star Wars sets — iconic builds brought to life at full scale
✔️ Make-and-take builds — kids create and keep their own LEGO Star Wars mini-build
✔️ Live SMART Play demos — see the new technology in action with hands-on stations
✔️ Photo ops — shareable moments throughout the experience
✔️ Giveaways — while supplies last
Learn more about the experience here.

What Is LEGO SMART Play™ Technology?
LEGO is calling it their biggest innovation since the minifigure — and they invented the minifigure in 1978, so that’s saying something.
The SMART Play System is a new tech-powered play experience built around three components that work together:
- The SMART Brick — a 2×4 LEGO brick with a built-in accelerometer that responds to how you move, twist, and hold it. It literally plays back when you play with it.
- SMART Tags — small tiles that tell the SMART Brick what to become, unlocking different reactions and mini-games
- SMART Minifigures — place one next to a SMART Brick and it responds with unique sounds, moods, and reactions
The system responds to how kids actually play — twist it, turn it, hold it upside down — and keeps surprising them with Easter eggs, secret mini-games, and plot twists. It’s endlessly replayable.
And best of all? Every SMART Brick, Minifigure, and Tag clicks together with any LEGO bricks you already own at home.
Why This Pop-Up Might Be Worth the Visit
This isn’t a product demo at a store table. It’s a fully built-out immersive experience in a parking lot, designed to let kids (and grown-ups!) actually feel what the new SMART Play system can do before it hits shelves.
Plus, it’s the only stop in California. Lucky us!
