Star Wars & SDI: Defending America and the Galaxy at the Reagan Library

Friday, March 15 - Sunday, September 8

MARCH 15 – SEPTEMBER 8, 2024

In 1983, President Ronald Reagan announced the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), a plan to essentially build a space shield against nuclear attacks. The media began calling the program “Star Wars,” since the idea seemed so out of this world, like a galaxy far, far away.

This new exhibits tells the story of SDI and the pop culture phenomenon of Star Wars. See props, costumes, and concept art from the Star Wars franchise, including a Landspeeder, master replicas of Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, and Princess Leia’s dress.

Date & Time:

Friday, March 15 - Sunday, September 8
