Presented with orchestra and sung in English, Rusalka is based on Slavic mythology and was the original inspiration for Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid.
With the help of an evil witch, the water nymph Rusalka goes against the wishes of her father, giving up her home, family, and her voice to join her human prince on dry land. However, she quickly learns that true love can come at a terrible price.
Rusalka was written in 1901 by Czech composer Antonin Dvořák and will be making its Los Angeles premiere on the Main Lawn at Descanso.
