Girls ages 6-13 years (and a parent) are invited to Celebrate National Barbie Day at the Queen Mary.
It was the summer of 1956. Ruth Handler, her husband, Elliott, Daughter, Barbara and Son, Ken, set sail for a six-week vacation to Europe aboard the RMS Queen Mary. It was in Lucerne, Switzerland that Ruth and her daughter spotted a toy that sparked and idea that forever changed the way little girls played with dolls. “My whole philosophy of Barbie was that, through the doll, a little girl could be anything she wanted to be. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices.” Ruth Handler, (Creator of the Barbie Doll).
A transatlantic doll exhibit will be on display in the historic Britannia Salon. Activities
will include a photo op area, refreshments, friendSHIP bracelet activity, face painting, guest speakers, a costume contest and plenty of time to stroll the Queen Mary.
Tickets: $30 (ages 6-12), $15 for adults.
