Coastal Cleanup Day in LA County: Family Fun with a Purpose

Looking for a family activity that makes a difference? Coastal Cleanup Day is back Saturday, September 20, 2025, 9am–noon! Thousands of volunteers will unite to protect oceans, rivers, and neighborhoods from pollution.

Heal the Bay has led the effort in L.A. County for 35+ years, with 7,000 volunteers removing 18,000 pounds of litter last year. Orange County Coastkeeper coordinates 30+ sites annually, bringing the cleanup spirit south.

This year, 100+ sites are ready — some with extra fun like campfires, kites, and pier fishing. It’s a day to care for the coast and make family memories.

How to Participate:

The World’s First Trashure Hunt!

This year, Coastal Cleanup Day is adding a twist: The World’s First Trashure Hunt! Think scavenger hunt meets beach cleanup. Special “trashure” boxes and other items will be hidden at cleanup sites across California. If you’re lucky enough to find one, you can redeem it for a valuable prize!

Encourage your kids to keep their eyes peeled. The litter they pick up might just turn into treasure!
