This workshop is geared to give kids (all ages) a chance to spend time in a garden and be surrounded by nature's beauty. Children will be encouraged to find their unique creative expression. All supplies provided.
Families will enjoy snail races, lawn games and crafts, scavenger hunt, docent led tours and exploring the grounds while admiring a huge variety of blooming fuchsias at this special place for relaxation, exploration and discovery.

At The Beauty of Christmas, guests can shop at the Garden Shop, full of seasonal plants, beautiful handmade items and unique holiday gifts. Visitors will enjoy complimentary home-baked cookies, coffee and tea, as well as free admission to the Gardens. While there, explore The Gardens and enjoy the 2.2 acre horticultural retreat!
July 25: Kids get to create their own garden to attract Monarch Butterflies. Learn about the life cycle of monarchs and which plants they depend on in your garden.
September 26: Each child will start their own cacti collection to bring home in this Kids Class at Sherman Library & Gardens.
October 17: Kids, wear your messy clothes for this one! Dissect and observe a cornucopia of squash, create natural stamps for a unique work of art, and choose a pumpkin to paint.
OCTOBER 23-24: Grab an adventurous partner, or the whole family, and enjoy an eerie garden walk to discover what plants do after dark. Toxic specimens, man-eating plants, and the Forbidden Jungle await!
NOVEMBER 21: Visit Sherman Library & Gardens to introduce your kids to the exciting world of herbs! Create a mini herb container to add to your own garden at home.
FEBRUARY 13: Create your own nature journal and fill the first page with a flower! You will work together to observe the colors and qualities of a beautiful Camellia bloom from the garden and use simple watercolor techniques to create your own botanical portrait.
APRIL 3: Register early––class size is limited! Kids bring your parents and learn how to grow your own tomatoes this summer. You’ll be off to a great start with your own tomato plant and everything you need to know to plant and care for it. You and your family can look forward to harvesting sun-ripened tomatoes all summer long.
SATURDAY, APRIL 17: Create a pretty painting of a succulent. You will work together to observe the colors and qualities of a beautiful succulent from the Sherman garden and use simple step by step watercolor techniques to create your own botanical portrait.
FRIDAY, APRIL 23: A creative dance class in the garden inspired by butterflies, birds and flowers. Children will move, dance, and go on a creative journey through the garden.
SATURDAY, APRIL 24: In this family workshop you will create your own ‘Garden Book.’ Learn to make an accordion book with covers and a hidden page, then customize and decorate the inside of your book with colorful cut paper and drawings to create a bountiful garden.
SATURDAY, MAY 15: Create a pretty painting of a sunflower. You will work together to observe the colors and qualities of a beautiful sunflower and use simple step by step watercolor techniques to create your own botanical portrait
SATURDAY, MAY 22: Learn about the life cycle of monarchs and which plants they depend on in your garden. Pot up these special plants to take home and start observing monarchs in your own garden.
WEEKEND, JUNE 19-20: Visit Sherman Library & Gardens to check out some cool and spooky carnivorous plants. See plants that trap, dissolve, and drown their own prey!
JUNE 26: Kids create gardens to attract Monarch Butterflies. Pot special plants to take home and start observing monarchs in your own garden.
SEPTEMBER 11: Learn how to reimagine your garden space, plant the seed of an edible garden and take home a planter to get you started.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 25: Create your own nature journal and fill the first page with a hummingbird! You will work together to observe the colors and qualities of this cool creature and use step-by-step watercolor techniques to create your own portrait.
OCTOBER 29-30: Get up close to birds of prey, tortoises, creepy, crawly bugs and get a close look at dissected carnivorous plants. Scorpions, tarantulas, lizards, snakes and other nocturnal animals will all be in the gardens.
JANUARY 15: Join local artist Erna Van Dyk as she teaches you how to see and paint color and simple shapes using step-by-step watercolor techniques. You will work together to observe the colors and qualities of the giant timber bamboo… and a creepy crawly visitor!
FEBRUARY 12 & 26: Enjoy Parent & Me Painting: Tulip Collage on the 12th and Worm Composting on the 26th. Reserve tickets early as these sell out.
SATURDAY, APRIL 23: Learn how to protect the natural environment, walk around the garden, and take home a wildlife-friendly plant that you can put in your own garden.
SATURDAY, MAY 7: Explore the Succulent Garden, Fern Grotto and Tropical Conservatory amongst many others, with an expert Docent Tour Guide. This family friendly tour lasts about one hour and is free with garden admission.
July 29, August 5, 12 and 19: : Join them as they share favorite stories, picture books and poems. Perfect for preschool children and their caregivers.
AUGUST 13: Work together with your little one to create a watercolor picture of a Peacock Orchid at the Sherman Library & Gardens right before they open!
AUGUST 13: Join local artist Erna Van Dyk as she teaches you how to create a picture of a Peacock Orchid! Working together, you will use step-by-step watercolor techniques to create your own illustration of a vase and model magic clay to create the flowers. This fun, relaxed class takes place in our outdoor classroom before the garden is open.
AUGUST 20: Take your little one to experience the artistic effects of Sun Printing!
OCTOBER 29: Celebrate Día de los Muertos by learning how to decorate sugar skulls.
