DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, March 19\, 2026 \nMission San Juan Capistrano celebrates St. Joseph’s Day and the annual return of the famous swallows with a day of tradition\, community\, and festivity. \nThis world-renowned event marks the swallows’ return to Capistrano and the coming of spring\, a tradition started by Father O’Sullivan in the 1920s. Activities include live Mariachi music\, Flamenco dance performances\, Native American storytelling\, and a lecture by swallows expert Dr. Charles Brown. Serra Chapel tours with Executive Director Mechelle Lawrence Adams are also on the schedule. \nHighlights include: \n\nRinging of the historic bells\nLive Mariachi music\nFlamenco dance performance\nNative American storytelling\nLecture by swallows expert Dr. Charles Brown\nSerra Chapel tour\nSt. Joseph’s Table hosted by Vicky Carabini\nBracelet and trucker hat making\nColoring pages and station tours\n\nAdmission is $20 for adults (18–59)\, $17 for seniors (60+)\, $14 for students with valid ID\, $14 for youth (5+)\, and free for children 4 and younger. DESCRIPTION:December 19-23 and December 26-30. \nJoin in the spirit this holiday season at the Mission for Capistrano Lights: Mission Lights! \nThe beloved annual event returns with 10 days and nights of family fun beginning with a new Opening Night on Friday\, December 19 and continuing on select days through December 30. \nCapistrano Lights is a place to create new memories or return as a yearly tradition to walk the Mission corridors\, sing-along during the tree lighting program and take your annual photo with Santa (through December 23). All those wonderful experiences and more are included in the price of admission. Experience the Mission as the sun sets and the Mission is lit up in color. Walk the path of remembrance\, see the lighted California poppy garden\, enjoy the smells of the scented citrus garden\, shine under our halo palm trees and more. There will be even more decorative additions this year. \nA “guest favorite” is the life sized nativity that will return to the Ruins of the Great Stone Church as well as the stunning light tunnel with over 20\,000 lights\, community Christmas trees\, family wreaths\, prayer candles\, 10’ family Christmas wreath (perfect for annual photos) and family crafts by the Crafty Cruiser AR Workshop. \nCome experience live musical performances throughout the season. This year Capistrano Lights welcomes new performers and the return of the annual Dickens Carolers roaming the Mission grounds and harpist Dr. Marsha Long performing in the historic Serra Chapel once again. An array of new artists are also planned. \nTHIS YEAR!\n\nEnjoy a cup of hot cocoa\, a sweet treat or make some S’mores (available for purchase at the 3:16 Bakery Shop) while sitting near the warm firepits enjoying the Mission illuminated in lights.\nOn Capistrano Lights dates\, the Mission grounds will open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. The nightly Christmas tree lighting and music program begins at 5:05 p.m.\nHoliday programming\, including live entertainment and visits with Santa\, begins at 3:30 p.m. and will end at 6:30 p.m.\, 30 minutes before official closing.\nWine and beer are available for purchase during all 10 evenings of Capistrano Lights.\nArrive early and enjoy the temporary Capistrano Lights audio tour available throughout the month. DESCRIPTION:May 20-27\, 2025 \nMission San Juan Capistrano transforms into an awe-inspiring Field of Honor with more than 400 American flags\, each standing seven-feet tall in solemn formation\, waving proudly in honor of military\, veterans\, first responders\, including K-9 and equestrian heroes. \nActive duty\, veterans\, first responders\, and Mission Preservation Society members will receive free admission to the Mission throughout the exhibit. \nRegular admission pricing will be in effect. Normally the Mission is closed on Mondays\, however\, the Mission will be open on Memorial Day\, May 29 as part of this program. \n
