Ocean Institute: Whale Watching, Specialty Cruises and Tallship Tour
Whale and Marine Life Tours
Join marine educators in exploring the ocean from top to bottom, while searching for some of the world’s largest and smallest creatures during a 2.5-hour long whale watching program. Most Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m.
Set sail aboard the schooner Spirit of Dana Point and experience California from the perspective of an early tallship explorer. Join the crew to help raise sail, handle lines, and steer the ship, or simply sit back, relax and enjoy the majesty of sailing the seas aboard a tallship. Offered on select weekends throughout the year.
Bioluminescence Night Cruise
Explore the nightlife of the Dana Point Headlands on this interactive night cruise on the Research Vessel Sea Explorer. A meter net is deployed to capture thousands of bioluminescent plankton that form the basis of our ocean’s food chain, while a squid light attracts fish, squid, and possibly even sea lions and dolphins who feed on them. Friday and Saturdays monthly from May- September.
Themed cruises are offered during the year such as the 4th of July Cruise, Mother’s/Father’s Day adventures and more.
