Ocean Institute: Whale Watching, Specialty Cruises and Tallship Tour
Join the Ocean Institute’s marine educators in exploring the ocean from top to bottom, while searching for some of the world’s largest and smallest creatures during a 2.5-hour long whale watching program. Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m.
Tour the Tallship Brig Pilgrim
Saturdays and Sundays. An authentic replica of the two-masted brig that Richard Henry Dana Jr. sailed into Dana Point Harbor in 1834. Staff members, dressed in period costume, lead ongoing tours and a variety of hands-on activities. Saturday and Sundays, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. During the week by private reservation. Included with admission. Admission: $10. Ocean Institute. If you’re feeling adventurous, set sail on the Spirit of Dana Point during our “Pirates, Patriots, and Privateers Adventure Sails” offered on select weekends throughout the year.
Bioluminescence Night Cruise in Dana Point
May – September, 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. Explore the nightlife of the Dana Point Headlands on this interactive night cruise on the R/V Sea Explorer. A meter net is deployed to capture thousands of bioluminescent plankton that form the basis of our ocean’s food chain, while a squid light attracts fish, squid, and possibly even sea lions and dolphins who feed on them.
