Literacy Month – All Monthlong
Read your way through September! Every year, September is recognized as Literacy Month! Pretend City is inviting local authors to expand minds by reading and engaging with us in reading rich and high-quality literature! Reading helps lay the foundation for strong language and literacy competence, stimulates curiosity, develops a child’s ability to focus/concentrate and so much more!
Celebrate Rosh Hashana – Wednesday, September 8th
It’s time to celebrate the festival of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Children will learn all about this Jewish holiday through stories, sweet traditions, and more.
Patriot’s Day – Saturday, September 11th
September 11th is an important day in any American’s life, no matter how old they are. At Pretend City, we are remembering this day and honoring the lives that were lost. We will have different activities for children to show their patriotism and learn more about the day in a kid-friendly way.
Baby Steps – Sunday, September 12th | 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM
A special time in the museum for parents and their babies 18 months and younger. This month’s Baby Steps is all about books, stories, and reading! Learn how to incorporate books in your child’s life at different ages through cloth books, bright & colorful books, and interactive books to navigate the appropriate “reading levels” for your baby. Introducing your little ones to books at a young age will help them tremendously as they grow up. Specifically for Infant (0-18 months), grownups. For the comfort of our infant guests, no older siblings please.
Grandparents’ Day – Sunday, September 12th
Celebrate grandparents and our appreciation for all that they do with special activities and fun!
International Day of Peace – Saturday, September 18th
Peace Day is an internationally celebrated tradition where we come together to strengthen ideals of peace within and among all peoples. Share your love for the world and each other with activities that promote harmony and caring.
Talk Like a Pirate Day! – Sunday, September 19th
Ahoy Mateys! Hoist up the anchor and sail away to celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day! It’ll be a swashbuckling adventure as you play pirate games, tell tales, and create pirate art! Yo ho, yo ho, it’s a Pretend City life for me! *Buy 1 Get 1 admission for those dressed in pirate attire*
Fall Festival of Fun! – Wednesday, September 22nd
It’s time to fall in love with this change in seasons! The leaves are turning, and the weather is shifting which means there is lots of fun to had at Pretend City. Celebrate with art, games, books, and sensory play.
