Pretend City Celebrates Black History Month, STEAM-ville, Valentine’s Day and more!
Join Pretend City for a month of new cultural celebrations, more educational programming, and engaging art activities.
Below are a handful of special days offered at Pretend City during February. All activities are subject to change and limited to availability. Most of the activities are included with admission, although some may require special ticketing or pre-registration – be sure to visit the Pretend City events calendar for details, and even more events offered throughout the month.
Groundhog Day Sunday, February 2, 11 a.m.
Celebrate with Punxsutawney Phil and learn about Groundhog Day. Together, find out if we have a long winter or an early spring.
Black History Month Thursdays, February 6, 13, 20 and 27, 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Each Thursday in February, Pretend City will learn about an influential African American figure in American History. Children will have the opportunity to learn about each figure through stories, songs, art activities and pictures. Join them every Thursday all month long for a chance to celebrate Black History Month at Pretend City.
Asian Cultural Festival Saturday and Sunday, February 8-9, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Pretend City actively acknowledges diversity and looks forward to learning about different cultures. Gather this weekend to explore and draw inspiration from traditional Asian cultural objects.
Baby Steps: Infants-Exclusive Event & Free Dental Screenings Monday, February 10, 2-3:30p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 23, 8–9:30 a.m.
Specifically for infants (0-18 months; no older siblings, please) and their grown-ups. The museum is open specifically for the littlest pretenders, without the hustle and bustle of bigger kids running around. You and your little one will have special infant and toddler-only time to play and explore. $10 per adult with pre-registration; $12 at the door; members, free.
Valentine’s Day + BOGO Day Friday, February 14, 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Enjoy the lovely holiday at Pretend City. Today, they will be spreading the love throughout the museum. The day’s activities are sure to fill your little one’s heart with joy, happiness and love! Additionally, free health screenings will be offered.
Celebrate President’s Day Monday, February 17, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Celebrate America’s past presidents at Pretend. Enjoy a little patriotic adventure through the city while learning all about the role of the President!
STEAM-ville Sunday, February 23, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Children will have the unique opportunity to learn, discover and play through hands-on interactive experiments centered around STEAM – science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
Family Autism Night Monday, February 24, 5-7:30 p.m.
Once a month, Pretend City hosts a special event for children of all ages who are on the autism spectrum. This is a fun opportunity for families and children to play and interact in an autism-friendly environment with support from staff and help from community partners who specialize in the autism spectrum.
Celebrate Mardi Gras Tuesday, February 25, 11 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Kids can sing, dance, and bake their way through the museum today, then end the day with a festive parade down the Pretend City city streets!
Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Weekend Satruday, February, 29, 10 a.m. – Monday, March 2, 4 p.m.
Read, learn, and play, shout, “hip-hip-hooray!” In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, celebrate all weekend long with classic stories, whacky activities, and special appearances by some of your favorite characters.
