Wednesday, July 3: Celebrate the 4th of July
Let freedom ring. Stop by the museum for some patriotic fun where your child can parade through the museum, participate in an Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty fashion show, a star-spangled science lesson, and a sparkling craft to take home. (Closed July 4th.)
Wednesday, July 10: Teddy Bear Picnic
Have a beary fun time at Pretend City’s Teddy Bear Picnic. Americans are celebrating one of the most famous toys in the world, which is over 100 years old. In the museum, you are encouraged to bring your bears, blankets, and baskets to set up your own picnic.
Thursday, July 18: Celebrate Nelson Mandela’s Birthday
We’re all friends at Pretend City! Gather together to celebrate the birthdate of a strong world leader, Nelson Mandela. Learn about his efforts to promote equality: read stories, create art, and practice social emotional learning.
Sunday, July 21: National Ice Cream Day
I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for ice cream. Get the inside scoop with free ice cream, noon – 1 p.m. Whether you like it in a cup or a cone, with sprinkles or with fudge, celebrate with Pretend City for a day filled with ice cream activities, including crafts and songs.
Monday, July 22 – Friday, July 26: Space Week
Space Week is going to be out of this world. Celebrate all things outer space. View the website for full itinerary. (Note: Monday closes at 1 pm.)
July 28: Baby Steps Through Pretend City
It’s summertime and perfect weather for outdoor activities like the pool or beach! Learn how to keep your infants safe in the sun and in the water. Meet in the Marina and Beach areas of the museum so toddlers and infants can splish splash in some water activities while parents learn some safety tips. This exclusive infant and young toddler event will allow babies to play in water their own way. Make sure they’re wearing their favorite swimsuit! $10 per adult; infants and Pretend City Members, free.
Monday, July 29: Family Autism Night
A special event for children of all ages who are on the autism spectrum. This is a fun opportunity for families and children to play and interact in an autism-friendly environment. Pretend City wants to enrich your family’s play experience with welcoming smiles and practical support.
Wednesday, July 31: Celebrate Harry Potter’s Birthday
You’re a wizard Harry. Celebrate the chosen one’s birthday at Pretend City dressed as your favorite Harry Potter character. These books provide material for children’s imagination, free play, and help them distinguish between what is real and what isn’t.
