January at Pretend City – 2020 is Here
Join Pretend City for a month of new cultural celebrations, more educational programming, and engaging art activities. January brings celebrations like The Festival of Sleep, Lohri – a Hindu Celebration, and Winnie the Pooh Day. Join in on the fun as they usher in a new decade and set the tone for a spectacular new year!
Below are a handful of special days offered at Pretend City during January. All activities are subject to change and limited to availability. Most of the activities are included with admission, although some may require special ticketing or pre-registration – be sure to visit the Pretend City events calendar for details, and even more events offered throughout the month.
Way to Play Day + Buy One Get One Free Day: Friday, January 10
Join their guides who will highlight how to make playtime in the museum more educational. Also, on-site free developmental screenings, eye exams, hearing screenings, and dental screenings will be offered. Click here to print your free BOGO coupon. 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Baby Steps: Monday, January 13 & Sunday, January 26
Is your little one a choosy eater? Join Pretend City for this January’s Baby Steps event and play with your little one’s favorite (or maybe not-so-favorite) foods! January 13, 2-3:30 p.m. and January 26, 8-9:30 a.m.
Winnie the Pooh Day: Sunday, January 18
Join Pretend City for the cuddliest holiday around and celebrate one of the most famous bears of all time, Winnie the Pooh! Join in on the Pooh-riffic activities! 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Monday, January 20
Every child is unique, and they should know that no matter how different their friends may look from them, everyone should be treated fairly. On this special day at Pretend City, they aim to have an open discussion with the children about equality – don’t miss out on this important life lesson for your child! 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Lunar New Year Celebration: Saturday, January 25
新年快樂! Happy New Year! Lunar New Year, also referred to as the Spring Festival, has long been celebrated for centuries. Today, Pretend City celebrates Chinese traditions through fun, bright activities and cultural learnings. 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Family Autism Event: Monday, January 27
Once a month, Pretend City hosts a special event for children of all ages who are on the autism spectrum. This is a fun opportunity for families and children to play and interact in an autism-friendly environment with support from staff and help from community partners who specialize in the autism spectrum. 5-7:30 p.m.
Celebrate Basant Panchami: Tuesday, January 28
Basant Panchami is an important Indian festival that celebrates the onset of spring and recognizes Goddess Sarawati, the goddess of education and learning. Revel in the fun while learning about this unique tradition through interactive activities and crafts. 11 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
