Crystal Cove State Park always has fun things happening all month long! Visit the park for Junior Ranger Program (Tuesdays, August 3-31), Family Nature Hikes (Wednesdays, August 4-25), Family Fun Mornings (Fridays, August 6-27), Beach Scavenger Hunt (Thursdays, August 12 & 26), Summer Bird Walk (Saturday, August 14), Coastal Geology Tour (Sunday, August 15), Seaweeds & Sea Creatures Beach Walk (Saturday, August 21), and Whale & Wildlife “Twalk” (Saturday, August 28).

 

 

Children’s Art Day

Children’s Art Day offers families and people of all ages the opportunity to enjoy exploring and making art together. The event is smaller this year to ensure everyone’s safety – but with more giveaways than ever! In addition to all the free Children’s Art Day activities, all event participants will receive free admission to MUZEO.

Children’s Art Day includes booths, art projects, musical and performing groups, chalk art, face painting, and plenty of fun for families and people of all ages. Be sure to stop by the Anaheim Fire Department booth to decorate a free bicycle helmet to take home!

This year, Children’s Art Day is being held in Carnegie Plaza in front of the MUZEO.

 

 

Monarch Butterfly Day

OC Parks invites children and families to learn all about Monarch Butterflies and their natural habitat with an up-close look at these magnificent creatures at the annual Monarch Butterfly Day! The free event takes place at Freedom Hall. Children can learn how to plant their very own butterfly garden. Participants can also go inside a netted butterfly enclosure. Butterfly experts will be on-site to provide educational information and answer questions about the beautiful and unique specimens.

Additional activities include interpretive programs, children’s crafts, face painting and a balloon artist. Food will be available for purchase. Recommended for ages 4-12.

 

 

Kidstock

Get ready to rock, roll, sway, sing, and bop! Because this month they’re bringing back the Kidstock Music & Arts Festival! Enjoy live musical performances throughout the week and explore different musical stylings, instruments, and sounds! The festivities will end with a special two-day performance by The Beat Buds, just in time for their Birthday Bonanza weekend celebration!

 

Melon Tours

Go for a wagon ride around the farm led by a friendly tour guide. Learn about Tanaka Farms and its history, farming methods, and the crops. Make a stop out in the field to pick some yummy summer produce then learn about and sample all sorts of melons! Everyone gets their own melon to take home! Then visit the Barnyard to see all of the animals.

 

 

Chuck Jones Season of Creativity

Chuck Jones: Season of Creativity is an exhibition designed to explore the process of animation from script to screen through original art, writing, and other ephemera created by Chuck Jones.

Great Park Gallery – Learn how Jones helped bring to life some of the most famous Warner Bros. characters including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Marvin the Martian, Wile E. Coyote, and Road Runner. Gallery is open noon – 4 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free. Visit ocgp.org/arts for more information on the exhibition.

Free Community Art Events – include Saturday Morning Cartoons & Drawing, Chuck Jones Big Draw, and the Lecture & Film Series. No registration is needed, and all ages are welcome. Drop-in activities are available while supplies last.

Recreational Classes – Enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities in cartooning, sewing, crafting, and more celebrating Season of Creativity. Activities are held at various City of Irvine facilities, and fees and ages vary by program. Registration is required.
