Where to Find Pick-Your-Own Fruit & Veggie Farms This Summer

Fresh air, fresh produce, and tractor-drawn wagons… it’s the perfect summer outing! Fruits and veggies always taste better when you pick them yourself, and it might even convince your pickiest eaters to try new things. Before you go out on the farm, make sure to call or follow their social media for operating hours.

 

Tanaka Farms

Tanaka Farms grows over 60 different fruits and veggies throughout the year. Check out their Harvest Chart to see what’s in season. Right now, they’re offering two different picking tours:

U-Pick Around the Farm: Includes a guided wagon ride around the farm. Learn about the farm’s history, farming methods, and different crops. You’ll make several stops along the way to pick different veggies (right now it’s carrots, sugar cane, and tomatoes!) and you could add strawberry picking to the end of your tour for an additional fee.

Strawberry Picking: Each person will receive a 1.25 pound basket to fill with strawberries. Enjoy a walk around the strawberry fields where you will spend 30 minutes picking.

Admission to this U-Pick Blueberry farm is free. Picking containers are provided (cost varies by size). Follow their social media to see when the farm is open and recommendations of what part of the farm has the most berries.

Farmer Mike’s Picking Tip: The key to find lots of ripe berries is to look for branches that look weighted down. Gently lift up the branches and look for clusters of berries.

 

 

South Coast Farms

Enjoy strawberry picking with South Coast Farms located at Tree of Life Nursery. They also have a Farm Stand located in Dana Point—Farmer George hand selects each day’s harvest and delivers it to the stand daily for your table.

 

 

Underwood Family Farms

Underwood Family Farms operates two farms, one in Moorpark and one in Somis.

Moorpark Farm Center offers Pick-Your-Own tours that include tractor-drawn wagon rides (pull wagons are also available). Their crop calendar shows lots of different fruits and veggies available right now including cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, squash, tomatoes, turnips and more!

Somis Farm Center is offering Pick-Your-Own Berries! According to their crop calendar, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries are available for the months of June and July.

 

 

Orcutt Ranch

Orcutt Ranch opens its orchards to the public one weekend a year in July. Ripe Valencia oranges and white grapefruit can be picked by hand. Bring your own grocery bags or medium size boxes.
