Summer Reading Programs at LA & OC Libraries

Local libraries are getting ready to launch their Summer Reading Programs to help motivate kids and teens to read during the summer! Participate in activities, log reading, and earn prizes. We found six SoCal library systems with over 200+ locations hosting a fun reading program. Check it out!

Note: Information is accurate as of 6/11/20. For updated information regarding COVID-19, contact your local library or visit their website.

Anaheim Public Library (7 branches)

Summer Reading Program – June 15 – August 5
Patrons can keep track of reading progress by downloading the READsquared app or by signing up for the reading program. Each book or activity logged enters patrons into a weekly raffle! Virtual programs are also available through the library’s social media that allows families to participate in educational activities throughout the summer. Watch their promo video featuring a super cute dino!

COVID-19 Update: All library branches are temporarily closed. Curbside pick-up available.

COVID-19 Update: All library branches are currently closed. Holds pickup available.

Long Beach Public Library (12 branches)

Summer Reading Program: June 13 – July 25
Children are asked to read five days out of the week and complete two activities from the Activities List or write book reviews to be eligible for a prize. Some prizes will be virtual and others can be picked up in person at a later date. Teens can read books and write reviews and earn entries into the grand prize drawing at the end of the summer. Teens can also participate in Make/Create/Design, a four-week series of digital workshops to discover their inner maker.

COVID-19 Update: All locations are currently closed until further notice. Outdoor book drops are also closed at this time.

Every review enters teens into their weekly and/or grand prize drawings.

COVID-19 Update: Curbside service available at all four locations. Customers may pick up library materials that have been placed on hold. All exterior book drops open.

Orange County Public Libraries (32 branches)

Summer Reading Challenge: June 15 – August 2

Ok, it’s technically not a library… but B&N is offering a fun program that rewards kids with a free book!

Summer Reading Program: July 1 – August 31
Kids in grades 1-6 can earn one free book! Simply print out this Summer Reading Journal and read any eight books. Log the book and write down their favorite part. Turn in the completed journal to any Barnes & Noble store between July 1 – August 21 to get a free book (from the grade-level lists)!

COVID-19 Update: Most stores are open and operating at reduced hours. See if your local store is open.
