Memorial Day is a time to remember and appreciate the brave men and women who have lost their lives in order to protect ours and what better way to honor them than by spending it with the ones you hold dear.

Northwood Memorial Candle Lighting Ceremony
May 27: To honor our nation’s fallen, the City of Irvine hosts the Northwood Memorial Ceremony, held in partnership with the Northwood Memorial committee, which will feature presentations by Gold Star families. Sunday, 4 p.m. Free. Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial Site, Northwood Community Park.
80th Annual Memorial Day Observance in Santa Monica
May 28: Join the Woodlawn Cemetery as local civic groups and dignitaries help celebrate Memorial Day. Highlights include a Condor Squadron military flyover and music by the John Adams Middle School Choir and the Santa Monica Oceanaires. Food will be available for purchase. Free. Monday, 11 a.m.
Memorial Day Ceremony in Irvine
May 28: The City of Irvine will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony in the Formal Garden at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park. Attendees will have the opportunity to memorialize our troops’ sacrifice by writing down a brief remembrance to be posted on a memory board at the event. Cards will also be available for well-wishers to send a message of appreciation and support to members of Irvine’s adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion. Free. Monday, 10 a.m. Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park.
Skatedogs Memorial Day Pizza Party in Long Beach
May 28: Kids (5-13) are invited to celebrate Memorial Day with Skatedogs and enjoy a super fun skateboarding obstacle course designed for all ability levels. Skaters will zoom up and over ramps, zigzag in and out of cones, race through the penguin walk section and more. $65 per child. Monday, 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Bethany Lutheran School
Target Free Memorial Day Holiday Monday at LACMA
May 28: Visitors of all ages are invited to a free day at the museum, with bilingual tours, family sketching activity, and live music at 12:30 and 2:45 pm. Free and open to the public. Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult. Target Free Holiday Monday excludes admission to specially ticketed exhibitions. To ensure a safe and pleasant visitor experience, tickets to the Boone Children’s Gallery on Target Free Holiday Monday will be timed and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Pick up your free, timed ticket in the Boone Children’s Gallery on the day of the event. Timed tickets allow for a 30-minute visit.
Memorial Day Observance in Mission Viejo
May 29: Join the city of Mission Viejo to honor those who lost their lives while serving in the military. The program includes local dignitaries, members of Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton, keynote speaker, Frans Vandenbroek and a musical tribute by Dawn Wright, voice of the Anaheim Ducks. Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. Free to attend. Civic Center.
