When it comes to family outings, we’re always looking for the best of the best to deliver to you all. We scour the internet, punch in dates, and run around frantically before deadline with our bánh mìs in hand. But when we’re not in the office looking for new ways to share amazing content, we hit the town and enjoy what So Cal has to offer! Here are our favorite places to unwind in summer!
Liz: When Kidsguide founder Liz isn’t busy with her four legged children, her favorite part of summer is the Summer Reading Programs. They’re “combined with an amazing line up of entertainment (magicians, puppet shows, musicians) and they’re FREE all summer long.” The show that really tickles her fancy is Buster Balloon so be sure to keep an eye out for him as he twists through libraries near you!
Check out our library section to scratch that reading itch and join in on the fun (just be sure to leave your fur babies at home)! 😛
Tiffany: Huntington Beach Adventure Playground is Tiff’s summer go to. “The kids can get dirty,” and get their adventure bones fed as they enjoy a pond with rafts and play structures complete with a rope bridge, a mud slide and a fort-building area. “They can even play with a hammer and saw, under supervision of course!”😝 Don’t forget your towel and change of clothes.
The Adventure Playground is open through August 18, Monday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. $3 per child (prices subject to change). Enter from the Central Library parking lot at 7111 Talbert Ave. (714) 842-7442.
And if you’re looking for even more outdoor fun check out our playground section!
Rebecca: Kidsguide staffer Rebecca loves to get her fill of thrill at Universal Studios Hollywood! “They have 4D rides that are completely different than other theme parks and the food at the Three Broomsticks is delicious.” Even for a muggle such as Rebecca 😛, Harry Potter land is still “very cool!”
If you like Universal as much as Rebecca be sure to check out our attractions section because we’ve got a ton more we know you’ll love!
Becca: Summer movies in the park are Becca’s favorite outing with her family. “They’re relaxing, and just so much fun to enjoy with your family. The kids can snuggle up, and munch on homemade goodies plus it’s free!” And what’s better than free, my friends? Not much.😝
Movies in the park are going on now so be sure to check out our summer movie and concert section to find one near you!
Alex: Alex enjoys the finer side of summer. Call her a philosopher if you will. 😝 Her absolute favorite place to go is the Getty Museum and Villa. “The rose gardens are so beautiful, and being immersed in old art is amazing but the best part has to be the family activities.” They’re hosting multiple garden concerts for kids this year plus Saturdays and Sundays are Roman Holiday days where you can really dive into Ancient Rome.
1200 Getty Center Drive, Los Angeles. Getty Villa: 7985 PCH, Pacific Palisades. Getty Center is closed Mondays. Admission, free; parking, $15 (the Pay Once, Park Twice program provides a flat $15 parking fee for a same-day visit to both locations).
If you’ve got a deep-thinker on your hands check out our extensive museum section and head over today!
We hope you enjoy our favorites as much as we do, and don’t forget to share your photos with us @kidsguidemagazine or on our facebook page so we can see what yours are! (If you’re drawing a blank, pick up a Summer Calendar and flip through the pages for some quick inspiration!)
