120th Annual Golden Dragon Parade & Chinese New Year Festival
February 9: Celebrating the Year of the Earth Boar, the festival features entertainment, family workshops, food and craft vendors. The Golden Dragon Parade is the oldest celebration of its kind in America. The parade will begin at the intersection of Hill Street and Ord Street. 2019 Lunar New Year Celebration
February 2: The festive nature of the holidays continues at The Grove with the 2019 Lunar New Year. The storied meaning, tradition, and symbolism behind this celebration are all apparent in the dazzling decor and fun-filled entertainment. Celebrate the Year of the Golden Pig with lively performances and cultural activities on Gilmore Lane and The Plaza of The Original Farmers Market. Saturday, 2-5 p.m. Free to attend.


8th Annual Lunar New Year Celebration at the Citadel Outlets
February 3: To celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Pig, Citadel Outlets will be giving out 10,000 red envelopes stuffed with gift cards and shopping coupons through February 18. The shopping center will be decked out in celebratory decorations such as a 17-foot pagoda centerpiece, a pig topiary and festive red and gold lanterns. In addition to receiving good luck and fortune, visitors can also immerse themselves in the rich culture and history surrounding the holiday and enjoy a plethora of live festivities including lion dances, brush painting and calligraphy. AAA Dare to Prepare Teen Driving Workshops
February 20: Parents and pre-permit teens can attend this free interactive program to learn about California’s Graduated Driver License laws and to discuss safe-driving practices teens should know before getting behind the wheel. Wednesday, February 20th from 6-8pm. Visit their site to register online at least a week in advance.


ABC USD Magnet School Fair in Cerritos
February 7: Meet representatives from each of ABC Unified School District’s 16 magnet schools and view highlights from each program. Thursday, 6-8 p.m. Free to attend.


Abilities Expo in Los Angeles
February 22-24: Discover opportunities for the L.A. disability community with ability-enhancing products and services, play a few adaptive sports, learn new dance moves, attend informative workshops and more. For more than 30 years, Abilities Expo has been the go-to source for the community of people with disabilities, their families, seniors, veterans and healthcare professionals. Every event opens your eyes to new technologies, new possibilities, new solutions and new opportunities to change your life.

Alhambra Lunar New Year Celebration
February 9: Celebrate Lunar New Year with a street festival covering five full city blocks, with lion dances, kung fu demonstrations and other ethnic performances. Young and old alike enjoy fun giveaways, games and ethnic foods. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Free admission.


Anniversary of Heroes Hall Veterans Museum in Costa Mesa
February 16: The public is invited to Heroes Hall for a free celebration commemorating its second anniversary and the grand opening of Victory From Within: The American Prisoner of War Experience. As part of the exhibit, visitors will hear the tragic yet inspirational stories of four former POWs who currently live in Orange County: George Emerson, 93, of Huntington Beach, POW in Germany during WWII; Dan Oldewage, 93, of Orange, POW in North Korea; Lloyd L. Roberts, 90, of Huntington Beach, POW in North Korea; Edison Miller, 87, of Irvine, POW in North Vietnam.

POWs Emerson, Oldewage, Roberts and Miller will each be honored during the opening ceremony. Refreshments, music and tours will be provided.

Heroes Hall will be open daily 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Free admission and parking.



Bank of America Patrons Receive Free Admission to Museums
February 3-4: Bank of America is helping its customers become “cultured” through their program “Museums on Us,” giving bank cardholders free admission to cultural venues in Southern California. Photo ID and a valid Bank of America/Merrill Lynch credit or debit card must be presented. One free general admission limited to cardholder at participating institutions. Celebrate Lunar New Year at The District
February 10: Bring your family to celebrate the Year of the Pig at The District! The free family festivities will include Lion Dance performances, family activities, kids’ crafts, face painting, balloon art, and a lucky red envelope giveaway to the first 500 guests. Sunday, 3-5 p.m. Free.


Chinese Lunar New Year at Segerstrom Center for the Arts
February 10: Celebrate the Year of the Pig with Segerstrom Center for the Arts and Pacific Symphony. Visit the Argyros Plaza to enjoy cultural performances ranging from traditional Chinese folk dance to contemporary K-pop.

Chocolate Festival in Long Beach
February 9: A street full of chocolate! Over 25 merchants will offer chocolate in various dessert items. There is no entry fee for the event, only the cost of tickets used to purchase the dessert items.

Chocolate tasting begins at 1 – 3 pm. And don’t miss the homemade chocolate dessert contest from 12 – 1 p.m. Or the Huf’s Hut chocolate pie eating contest from 3 – 4pm.

Free admission; 12 tasting tickets for $10; metered parking.


Creation Station at Rancho Los Cerritos in Long Beach
February 2: Kids can drop in for an afternoon of fun! Create unique seasonal crafts and participate in engaging rancho-themed activities. Get creative with history! Using a wide variety of colorful materials, children can experiment with natural materials to create seasonal arts and crafts. This drop-in program takes place rain or shine. February’s theme, Heart’s Crazy, celebrates Valentine’s Day. Saturday, 1-4 p.m. Free.


Family Flicks Film Series: Modern Times at Hammer Museum
February 10: This comic masterpiece marks Charlie Chaplin’s swan song as the Little Tramp, an iconic character, as well as his first use of a recorded soundtrack. Modern Times takes aim at the dark side of technology and mass production, all with Chaplin’s signature wit and style. (1936, dir. Charlie Chaplin, 35mm, 87 min.)

Recommended for ages 6 and up. Sunday, 11 a.m. Free.


Family Hike in Laguna Niguel
February 2: Come and enjoy an easy, 2.5-mile family hike over moderate but uneven terrain (45 ft. elevation gain). Starting at the James Dilley Preserve, we will hike one of the most diverse areas of the park to Barbara’s Lake and back. Hike is led by Laguna Canyon Foundation naturalist volunteers.

Free Family Night at Kidspace Children’s Museum
February 5: The first Tuesday of the month is Kidspace’s Free Family Night. Admission to the museum is free for everyone during these hours only. On these special nights, Kidspace will promote family learning about the arts, while emphasizing the diverse cultures and communities present in Greater Los Angeles. Free Inclusive Play Date in North Hollywood
February 9: Shane’s Inspiration invites children of all abilities to a free, inclusive play date at their universally-accessible playground in North Hollywood, a unique space-designed experience that is out of this world! Universal Studios employees are partnering with Shane’s Inspiration to bring families a day of fun at the park. Free Day at the Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens
February 7: The Huntington opens its doors to all for free! Explore the library, gardens or art collections all at no cost. Reservations are required. First Thursday of each month 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.


Free Shark Lagoon Night at the Aquarium of the Pacific
February 22: The public is invited to get up close with the ocean’s ultimate predators at the Aquarium of the Pacific for free during Shark Lagoon Nights. Guests will have the opportunity to touch bamboo sharks and see large sharks such as sand tigers as well as rays. Coffee, hot cocoa, beer, wine, deserts, and snacks are available for purchase. Shark Lagoon Nights are weather-dependent and can be canceled due to inclement weather. Only Shark Lagoon is open and available for guests during these free events. Fridays, 6-9 p.m. Free.


Happy Lunar New Year at Santa Monica Place
February 2: Enjoy traditional cultural performances, arts and crafts, and enjoy special offers from participating stores and restaurants. Activities include DJ, dough artist, balloon artist, Korean fan dance, Lion dance, and K-pop dancers. Saturday, 2-6 p.m. Free to attend.


Hot Wheels Garage Event in El Segundo
February 2: Visit a life-size Hot Wheels garage, with race tracks, art projects, face painting, balloon artist, train rides, raffle prizes, carnival rides, Zoom Go Karts and more! $3 ice cream sundaes. Lucky Lunar New Year Celebration in Santa Ana
February 16: Celebrate the Year of the Pig with fun for the whole family in Macy’s Court and Center Court. Festivities include traditional Lion Dances, a face painter, a balloon twister, crafts, stilt walkers, calligraphy artist, fan dancers, Wishing Tree, giveaway and more! Saturday, 12-3 p.m. Free to attend.


Lunar New Year at The Source in Buena Park
February 16: Join The Source for 2019’s Lunar New Year Celebration. This event will feature Lion Dance, face painting, and various entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Saturday, noon. Free to attend.


Lunar New Year Celebration at Bella Terra Huntington Beach
February 2: Celebrate the Year of the Pig and experience Asian cultural music, dance, and art.
The Dragon Parade will wind through Bella Terra at 12 AND 2 PM with a complete performance in the Pavilion Event Plaza featuring colorful costumes, drums, gongs, cymbals and skilled displays of dance and movement.

Stay after each Dragon Parade performance for three Lunar New Year kids crafts stations set up around the large fountain in the Pavilion Event Plaza. Open 1-4 p.m.

Lunar New Year Celebration at Irvine Spectrum Center
February 10: Celebrate Lunar New Year and the Year of the Pig at Irvine Spectrum Center in the Giant Wheel courtyard. Activities include: Chinese Dragon Dance, Lion Dance, greeter distributing fortune cookies, lucky envelopes, arts and crafts, and entertainment. Sunday, 12-2 p.m. Free.


Lunar New Year Celebration with OCTA in Irvine
February 9: Celebrate the Lunar New Year with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA). Festivities include a traditional lion dance, prizes, and refreshments. Be one of the first 100 people attending their Irvine Station celebration and receive a free round trip Metrolink ticket to the Los Angeles Golden Dragon Parade. The celebration at Irvine Station is from 8-9 a.m. The first train to LA Union Station departs 9:08 a.m.


Lunar New Year Community Event at Westfield Santa Anita
February 2: In celebration of Lunar New Year, Westfield Santa Ana is hosting live performances including The Immortals Lion Dance and award-winning singers. Plus, raffles and giveaways! Saturday, 3-6 p.m. Free to attend.


Lunar New Year Festival at the LA Waterfront
February 2: Join the Port of Los Angeles in celebrating the fifth annual Lunar New Year Festival, this year, at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium on the LA Waterfront. 2019 is the year of the pig! This free cultural festival offers free parking, free admission, and free entertainment, including face painting, crafts, a petting zoo and fireworks finale! A rain or shine community event.

Saturday, 3-7 p.m.; fireworks at 7 p.m. Free.


Lunar New Year Festival at USC Pacific Asia Museum
February 3: Celebrate Lunar New Year at the USC Pacific Asia Museum! Stage performances include a Lion Dance and martial arts presentation from the Northern Shaolin Kung Fu Association and classical musicians performing a variety of traditional and contemporary music and dance pieces. Plus, there will be art activities, food trucks and a musical petting zoo! Sunday, 10 a.m. Free.


Moms Club of Lakewood’s Family Fair
February 16: Free and open to the public, the fair is a community event that offers parents in Lakewood, Long Beach, Bellflower, Cerritos, and the surrounding areas information about local preschools as well as arts, education, and sports programs for kids. Families will be able to ask questions of preschool and program representatives, and sign up for tours.

SoCal Museums Annual Free-for-All Day
February 2-3: Dozens of museums presenting art, cultural heritage, natural history, and science will open their doors and invite visitors to attend their museums free of charge.

This offer is for general museum admission only and does not apply to specially ticketed exhibitions. Regular parking fees apply at each museum. Consult individual museum websites for hours, directions, and other visitor information. Check participating museums online.


Space Carnival in Long Beach
February 11: Join Makersville for a carnival that celebrate space and STEAM learning! There will be free and donation-based activities, exhibitors, and crafts. Monday, 3-6:30 p.m. Free.


Star Party at Griffith Observatory
February 9: Look through a large variety of professional and home-built telescopes to view the sun, planets, the moon and deep sky objects like double-stars, star clusters, and nebulae. The observatory’s Zeiss 12-inch refractor and computer controlled 11-inch lawn telescopes are set up throughout the event. Saturday, 2-9:45 p.m. Free.


Summer Opportunities Fair at Westridge School in Pasadena
February 2: Plan your child’s summer adventure at the Summer Opportunities Fair, one of the largest camp fairs in the nation with more than 100 local, national, and international summer camps and programs for boys and girls ages 5-18. Discover opportunities to speak with camp directors and staff from a diverse range of day and overnight programs including art & theatre, music & dance, sports, academic enrichment, community service opportunities, and programs for children with special needs. Target Free Holiday Mondays at LACMA
February 18: Visitors of all ages are invited to a free day at the museum, with bilingual tours, free programs, art-making activities, and live music from WYO at 12:30 and 2:45 pm.

The Gravely Celebration at the USS Iowa
February 21: The Gravely Celebration is held annually in February as part of Black History Month. Features a sunset reception and starlit awards program on the fantail of the Battleship IOWA. This event honors recipients of the VADM Samuel L. Gravely, Jr. Leadership & Service Award, which is conferred annually to recognize leaders in Southern California who exemplify the trailblazing, courageous service of the late U.S. Navy Vice Admiral.
