January 12: All ages are invited to experience close-up views of the first quarter moon, and enjoy the craters, mountains and “seas” on the surface, which are beautiful and inspiring. 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11 and Seal Beach Astronomy vollunteers will be on-hand to point out the “Sea of Tranquility” to visitors, where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin first set foot on Earth’s nearest celestial neighbor. Also in view will be sparkling star clusters, double stars and the Orion nebula. Many wonders await your discovery at the eyepiece of powerful telescopes provided by the volunteer astronomers. Seal Beach Astronomy Nights are co-hosted by Bogart’s Coffee House, across the street from the viewing party, where you can purchase hot drinks and goodies to keep you warm while waiting for your turn at the eyepiece.
