The Los Alamitos-based competitive dance squad performs in local and charity events throughout Southern California. Its senior team, comprised of girls ages 14-18, compete on a local and national level, securing first-place wins, as well as best choreography and costume recognition over the last four years. Further bolstering their standing, several dancers from EPIC’s all-star team have been selected to perform in Paris and Rome. A junior team is in the works for the 2010 season.

Friday, June 26: Free, three-hour dance training clinic for girls and boys (5+). 4-7 p.m. Dance West, 4322 Katella Ave., Los Alamitos.
Sunday, June 28: Tryouts for Epic Dance Force. 9 a.m. – noon. Dance West, 4322 Katella Ave., Los Alamitos.

Is your little one, teen or college kid a stand-out individual? See how brightly they’ll shine on stage when they compete for Mr. California and Miss Southern California! Both are scholarship pageants that honor poised, talented and community-minded youth ages 5-25. Participants have the opportunity to lend a helping hand to humanitarian nonprofits such as Special Olympics, Alzheimer’s Association, CHOC Hospital of Orange County, Relay for Life, the Los Angeles Department of Social Services and Giving Children Hope.

What summer blues? Sign up for a sensational season of learning at Camp Pegasus, where gifted preschoolers and K-8 students discover new passions and continue building their knowledge.

The Pegasus School from late June through early August will offer three camp sessions led by experienced and credentialed teachers. What better way to learn than through high-energy and creative hands-on activities?

In keeping with the school’s approach of providing a stimulating and joyful learning environment to cultivate every young mind’s potential, its summer camps cover a diverse spread of interests, from space science-themed sessions for preschoolers and Puppet Production for 1st graders, to clever hands-on approaches to math and science for upper elementary students.

If your little one’s the adventurous type, they’ll appreciate the outdoorsy Tour de Huntington Beach, which takes young bicyclists along a scenic route before hitting the sand for some fun beach activities. Sporty types will enjoy Summer Thunder Sports Camp, while crafty ones will be introduced to woodworking, painting, printmaking, Photoshop lessons and illustration.
