January 13: Just like us, trees start out small and slowly add growth rings to become huge! Examine some “tree cookies” (tree cross-sections) and create some of our own tree life stories. Afterwards, go on a hike and explore some of the big, leafy friends up close in Black Star Canyon Wilderness Park. This program is perfect for wee little ones, ages 4-6.
January 13: Join the Hammer Museum for Family Flicks. Absent-minded inventor Nick Szalinski accidentally shrinks his kids to the size of ants with an experimental shrinking ray.
Sundays: Tour the facility, including the loop trail and marine life.
Sundays: Make the drive to Gentle Barn for a presentation and tour. See how the barn was started and what a regular day is for them. Then head off for a tour and meet some animals that were saved.

Through April 21: Pompeii: Over 150 authentic artifacts on loan from the renowned Naples National Archaeological Museum in Italy. These are not replicas, but rather original, 2,000-year-old objects that were preserved in the ash after the catastrophic eruption.

January 2-18: Buena Park invites K-6 students who live in Buena Park and surrounding cities to participate in the 43rd Annual Elementary Art Show! This year’s theme is: Animals Are My Friends.

January 13: Come learn about the Conservatory’s classes, camps, and professional training opportunities! Meet teaching artists, sample classes, tour the building, enjoy refreshments and more. All classes will be free and current students can bring a guest for free.
January 9 and 13: The gray whales are migrating and Crystal Cove State Park is a great spot to look for them. Join a naturalist for a Gray Whale “Twalk” and learn some fun facts about the California State Marine Mammal and walk the bluff trail and scan the ocean for the migrants at each overlook.
January 12-13 & 19-20: This entirely unique, improvised, family show for kids 3-10 years old puts a comedic twist on the traditional kids’ show. When the main attraction doesn’t show up, Pete enlists the kids to help create a show from set to sound, plot to props, and costumes to characters. What could possibly go wrong?
January 13 & 27: Join Mile Square Park Staff for a beginning archery course for first time archers! This course will include an introduction to the sport of archery and safety instruction. All archery equipment will be provided.
January 13, February 3, 24, and March 10: This special festival is for all incoming 2018-2019 Kindergartners in the Long Beach Unified School District. Bring your incoming Kindergartners with you! Incoming Kindergartners receive a book, arts & crafts, backpack with school supplies and dental screening all for free!
