Spider Pavilion at the Natural History Museum

September 16 – November 25: Have a one-of-a-kind experience in the only Spider Pavilion in the U.S. Get a glimpse of the private lives of spiders in the open-air pavilion that is designed as a safe space to get up close to these amazing arachnids.

Pan for Gold at the Autry

Weekends and second Tuesdays: Eureka! Learn how to pan for gold, just like the 49ers did during the California gold rush, at an outdoor re-creation of a miner’s panning station.

Pumpkin Patch at Irvine Park Railroad

September 15 – October 31: Pick the perfect pumpkin, go on a train or hay ride, race on tractors, play a carnival game, decorate cookies, or the ponies, jump around in a bounce house, wander through the hay maze or the haunted house, get your face painted, pan for gold, and more.

Free Train Rides at Fairview Park

Third weekends: Free model train rides are offered by Orange County Model Engineers.

Target Free Sunday at MOLAA

Sundays: MOLAA’s Target Free Sundays offer visitors the opportunity to learn about Latin American culture through art workshops, live performances, and gallery tours.

Fright Fest at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Fridays – Sundays, September 15 – October 28: Halloween-themed “Fright Fest” runs with low-scare areas for younger kids.

Los Angeles County Fair

August 31 – September 23: Visit the fair where everyone is bound to have a good time! Featuring exhibits and contests, live animals and shows, kids’ activities, historic trains, a family marketplace, plus plenty of crafts, rides, games and food!

Dig It! Archaeology Adventures at the Skirball

Weekends: In a hands-on, simulated dig, kids experience the ancient Near East, learning methods for excavating a site and the importance of preserving archaeological artifacts.

Dolby Theatre Guided Tours

Daily: See an Oscar statuette, visit the Dolby Lounge and other celebrity hot-spots, and see images from previous Academy Awards ceremonies.

Festival of Children Celebration at South Coast Plaza

Weekends in September: The festival aims to help educate the community about the programs benefiting the children of Orange County, featuring more than 75 charities.

Apple Season in Oak Glen

Through late November: Working apple orchards in Oak Glen, a mountain town halfway between Riverside and Palm Springs, open their doors to the public. Some offer U-pick apples.

Free Kids’ Fishing Clinic in Dana Point

Sundays: Dana Wharf Sportfishing offers a dockside experience for young fisherman.

Oktoberfest, Kinderfest and Dachshund Races in Huntington Beach

Sundays, September 9 – October 28: An annual event that lets families enjoy Oktoberfest, featuring wiener dog (dachshunds) races, plus carnival games, live German music, bouncy houses street vendors, performers and family fun.

Panning for Gold, Adobe Brick Making and Arrowhead Necklace Craft at the Mission

Saturday and Sunday: Try your luck at finding the gold in the custom-designed Mission trough. They’ll supply the pan and the “gold;” kids roll up their sleeves and pan their way to riches.

Rides on the Great Park Balloon and Carousel in Irvine

Thursday – Sunday: The Great Park’s tethered, 118-foot-high, helium-filled balloon allows passengers to soar 400 feet in the air for a birds eye view. The carousel reaches a speed of 4.5 mph.

Family Night at Holiday Skate Center

Saturdays and Sundays: A family up to 5 can skate, including skate rental, for this special deal!

Weiner Dog Races at Old World

April 8 – December 9: Monthly, watch short-legged but swift Dachshunds race, like nothing you’ve seen before!

September 16: Celebration of Mexican Independence from Spain with a parade, popular and traditional entertainment, cultural activities, historic displays, food, artisan exhibits and more.

The Great Pumpkin Hunt South Coast Botanic Gardens

September 16 – November 30: Can you locate the bird houses inhabited by parrots, owls, blue birds and hawks to collect their clues and find the missing pumpkin patch?

Tour Angels Stadium in Anaheim

Ongoing: Join the Halos for a behind-the-scenes tour of baseball’s fourth-oldest stadium, including areas normally restricted to the public.

Sewing Sundays at Fashion Camp OC

Sundays: Kids (8+) can spend the day at Fashion Camp learning to sew! Campers will complete a project of their choice in one day – perfect for the beginner or returning student!

Tom’s Farms

Saturdays and Sundays: Familes stroll the craft fair, take in a train or carousel ride, try out the kid-sized tractor, operate a construction scoop, pan for gold, ride a pony, visit the petting zoo and see a magic show.

Weekend Kayak Tours in the Upper Newport Bay

Weekends: The Newport Bay Conservancy offers a two-hour guided kayak tour of the Back Bay.

Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest

September 8-November 3: Celebrating 48 years of family fun, this annual weekend festival features authentic German entertainment, contests and children’s activities, including interactive performances, game booths, bounce house and face painting.

Dozynki Harvest Festival in Yorba Linda

September 15-16: Come celebrate Polish culture at this 40th annual festival, with traditional Polish food, music, folk dancing, vendors and kids’ activities.

Oceanside Harbor Days

September 15-16: Head to Oceanside for two event-filled days of sun, sand and surf. The festival includes arts and crafts, food, a costume party for kids (12 and under), a boat-building and sailing competition, stage entertainment, military and public safety displays and more.

Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles

Friday – Sunday: Visit a large-scale permanent craft marketplace in classic World War II-era waterside warehouses, plus creation stations, printmaking workshops, daily demonstrations, live music, special events and food trucks.

Third Sundays: Walt’s Barn is a living showcase of Walt’s passion for railroading. Operated by the non-profit Carolwood Foundation, Walt’s Barn is filled with trains of all scales, many of which were donated to the Foundation by his animators and friends that shared his hobby.

Dodgers Stadium Tour in Los Angeles
