Pirate Invasion in Long Beach

June 30 – July 1: Ahoy! Join the largest gathering of pirates and scallywags ever to come ashore, with sword fights, cannon and musket battles, a treasure hunt, costume contests, an interactive kids’ zone, arts and craft vendors, live and DJ entertainment, food and more.

Pan for Gold at the Autry

Weekends and second Tuesdays: Eureka! Learn how to pan for gold, just like the 49ers did during the California gold rush, at an outdoor re-creation of a miner’s panning station.

Civic Center Block Party in Lakewood

June 30: Up-tempo music, good food and fun for the kids.

Sigler Park Splash Pad

Weekends, May 26 – June 17 and daily, June 23 – September 3: Splash Pad water features include ten-foot-tall pelicans, palm trees and sea horses.

Summer Safari at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park

June 23 – August 12: Summer Safari at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is a family-friendly, summertime festival that celebrates Asia with music, dancing, drumming and acrobatics!

Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach

June 29 – September 2: Kids can take a spin at the potter’s wheel, see a glass-blowing demonstration, or take a seat in the Children’s Art Spot (4+) or Studio One (7+) to try painting, printmaking, collages and other types of art.

Summer Reading Programs

June 1 – August 15: Many libraries offer homework help, including academic workshops and story times. Plus, join the Summer Reading Program, June 1 – August 15. Young readers (kids and teens) at most Los Angeles County and Orange County libraries will enjoy a “Build a Better World” theme.

Dig It! Archaeology Adventures at the Skirball

Weekends: In a hands-on, simulated dig, kids experience the ancient Near East, learning methods for excavating a site and the importance of preserving archaeological artifacts.

Shakespeare by the Sea Performances

June 14 – August 18: Bring picnics, blankets, chairs and warm clothes to these family friendly performances of “The Taming of the Shrew” and “MacBeth.”

Dolby Theatre Guided Tours

Daily: See an Oscar statuette, visit the Dolby Lounge and other celebrity hot-spots, and see images from previous Academy Awards ceremonies.

Big! World! Fun! Family Series in Hollywood

June 30 – August 4: The Big World Fun family series returns to the newly reopened Ford Theatres with an exciting line up of music and dance performances for kids (4-12) and their families.

U-Pick Melon Tours at Tanaka Farms

June 1 – August 31: Take a guided wagon ride around the farm, stop at different areas and try different summer fruits and vegetables, and finally step into the melon patch to sample delicious home grown melon.

Panning for Gold, Adobe Brick Making and Arrowhead Necklace Craft at the Mission

Rides on the Great Park Balloon and Carousel in Irvine

Thursday – Sunday: The Great Park’s tethered, 118-foot-high, helium-filled balloon allows passengers to soar 400 feet in the air for a birds eye view. The carousel reaches a speed of 4.5 mph.

Family Night at Holiday Skate Center

Saturdays and Sundays: A family up to 5 can skate, including skate rental, for this special deal!

Kids Skate at Holiday Skate Center
