Macy’s Letters To Santa

November 7 – December 24: Kids can create and decorate a letter to Santa, print it out and drop it off at a Santa Mailbox at a Macy’s department store.

Autumn Sea Fair at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

November 19: Families enjoy ocean-related activities throughout the day, including face-painting, origami lessons and gyotaku, the Japanese art of fish printing

Pan for Gold at the Autry

Weekends and second Tuesdays: Eureka! Learn how to pan for gold, just like the 49ers did during the California gold rush, at an outdoor re-creation of a miner’s panning station.

Spider Pavilion at the Natural History Museum

September 17 – November 26: Hundreds of spiders are on view in the pavilion, along with scorpions and tarantulas in terrariums just outside.

SeaWorld’s Holiday Celebration

November 18- January 6: SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration includes Rudolph’s Christmastown, Santa’s Christmas Village, and more than a million and a half holiday lights throughout the park.

Winter Fantasy at the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach

Weekends, November 18 – December 17: A winter-themed arts and crafts faire offering a variety of activities for kids including Santa visits, art activities, strolling carolers, magicians, puppet shows and children’s playhouse, plus lights, decorations and real snow!

Free Train Rides at Fairview Park

Third weekends: Free model train rides are offered by Orange County Model Engineers.

Target Free Sunday at MOLAA

Sundays: MOLAA’s Target Free Sundays offer visitors the opportunity to learn about Latin American culture through art workshops, live performances, and gallery tours.

Dig It! Archaeology Adventures at the Skirball

Weekends: In a hands-on, simulated dig, kids experience the ancient Near East, learning methods for excavating a site and the importance of preserving archaeological artifacts.

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas in San Diego

November 5 – December 26: Visit The Old Globe for Dr. Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas! A wonderful, whimsical musical based upon the classic Dr. Seuss book.

Dolby Theatre Guided Tours

Daily: See an Oscar statuette, visit the Dolby Lounge and other celebrity hot-spots, and see images from previous Academy Awards ceremonies.

Doo Dah Parade in Pasadena

November 19: The Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade celebrates 40 years of irreverent frolicking on the streets of Pasadena. Americas favorite other parade, known for its colorful, satirical spoof on the New Years Day Rose Parade.

Apple Season in Oak Glen

Through November 26: Working apple orchards in Oak Glen, a mountain town halfway between Riverside and Palm Springs, open their doors to the public. Some offer U-pick apples.

Free Kids’ Fishing Clinic in Dana Point

Sundays: Dana Wharf Sportfishing offers a dockside experience for young fisherman.

Outdoor Ice Skating in Santa Monica

November 1 – January 15: Downtown Santa Monica brings a little ice to the beachside community with ICE.

Pan For Gold Make an Adobe Brick and Arrowhead Necklaces at the Mission

Saturday and Sunday: Try your luck at finding the gold in the custom-designed Mission trough. They’ll supply the pan and the “gold” kids roll up their sleeves and pan their way to riches.

Rides on the Great Park Balloon and Carousel in Irvine

Thursday – Sunday: The Great Park’s tethered, 118-foot-high, helium-filled balloon allows passengers to soar 400 feet in the air for a birds eye view. The carousel reaches a speed of 4.5 mph.

Family Night at Holiday Skate Center

Saturdays and Sundays: A family up to 5 can skate, including skate rental, for this special deal!

Family Art Workshop in Long Beach

Walt Disney’s Barn Public Days in Los Angeles

Third Sundays: Walt’s Barn is a living showcase of Walt’s passion for railroading. Operated by the non-profit Carolwood Foundation, Walt’s Barn is filled with trains of all scales, many of which were donated to the Foundation by his animators and friends that shared his hobby.
