Weekends and second Tuesdays: Eureka! Learn how to pan for gold, just like the 49ers did during the California gold rush, at an outdoor re-creation of a miner’s panning station.
Third weekends: Free model train rides are offered by Orange County Model Engineers.
Sundays: MOLAA’s Target Free Sundays offer visitors the opportunity to learn about Latin American culture through art workshops, live performances, and gallery tours.
March 5 – July 4: Explore the sprawling sanctuary of Candytopia. This four-month event celebrates the vibrant colors and flavors of favorite sugary delights through a series of interactive art installations in over a dozen environments, from flying unicorn pigs to a marshmallow tsunami.
Sundays: Kids (8+) can spend the day at Fashion Camp learning to sew! Campers will complete a project of their choice in one day – perfect for the beginner or returning student!
Weekends: The Newport Bay Conservancy offers a two-hour guided kayak tour of the Back Bay.
May 20: Party for the Planet is an all-zoo event promotes conservation and the environment. There will be eco-friendly crafts, bird bingo, hands-on demonstrations, education stations and tips on recycling.
Third Sundays: In these free drop-in workshops families will work together to create artwork inspired by Museum exhibitions.
May 19-20: Get out of the city and head to the mountains for a festival of liliacs. Festivities include entertainment, games, parades, vendors, food and more!
Daily: A monthly calendar of story times, crafts, homework help and family-friendly events at libraries in the Orange County library system.
