May 6: Fun is blooming at the family-friendly Fuchsia Festival at Sherman Library & Gardens, as they celebrate its signature flower, the fuchsia. Families of all ages will enjoy exploring the grounds while admiring a huge variety of blooming fuchsias and a collection of more than 1,400 plant varieties. This family event features a fuchsia sale and class, seminars, kid-friendly activities and tours of the Gardens & Library. Children’s activities will be ongoing throughout the day and include snail races, lawn games, crafts and much more. This year Sherman Library & Gardens has also partnered with Adventures in Living Science to offer up-close encounters with live animals and artifacts. The Tea Garden Creperie will be open to serve handmade crepes, wine, champagne, coffee and juices and Shermie’s BBQ will serve hamburgers and hot dogs. The 2.2-acre Sherman Library & Gardens is a special place for relaxation, exploration and discovery which features collections of orchids, palms, camellias, roses and begonias to name a few. The historical research library features the development of the Pacific Southwest, and an amazing plein-air art collection. Saturday, 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. Adults, $5; teens and tweens (12-18), $3; under 12, free.
