It’s that time of year again! The smell of bug repellant is in the air, the fire’s crackling, and sticky marshmallow hands are everywhere. Camps are officially opening and we’ve got 6 ways you can save big. A big thanks to American Camp Association (ACA) for the tips. 😉
1. Jump on the Early-Bird Registration
Check out the deals online with your favorite camps. Plus, the Kidsguide CampGuide is updated daily, so check back frequently for the latest discounts.
2. Sign All of Your Kids Up
You can also score discounts by registering siblings, signing up for multiple weeks, or being a returning camper. If you don’t see deals listed, don’t be afraid to ask.
3. Ask About Camperships
Many camps offer “camperships” – full or partial scholarships – so that all kids can join in the fun, regardless of household income. Again, always ask.
4. Look for Partial-Day or One-Day Camps
If a full-time camp busts your budget, look for partial-day or one-day camps, such as My Gym.
5. Get a Tax Break
You could be reimbursed on a pre-tax basis for child care expenses that are necessary to allow you to work, look for work, or attend school full time. Visit the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for more information or talk to your employer or tax advisor.
6. Insider KG Tips:
• Camps sell out:
Register early to make sure your little camper has a spot!
• Becoming a member has its benefits.
Aquarium of the Pacific, for example, offers camps at a lower rate if you are a member–a total win, win!
