20 Free Things to do in July!

It’s mid-summer! And by now, your pockets might be drained, your vision may be starting to waiver, and back to school never seemed so far away. But never fear! Kidsguide is here to save the day with 20 FREE events you and your little ones need to hit this July!

P.S. A majority of these events are 100% free but a few might have minimal costs. Just make sure to read the description to double check 😉


7-Eleven Free Slurpee Day 7/11
This one’s a classic! Beat the summer heat with a free slurpee this day only at 7-Eleven locations.


Annual Cypress Community Festival 7/22
The Cypress Run (including a 5K & 10K Run and 5K Walk) will kick off the during day and is followed by the annual family festival featuring a pancake breakfast, chili cook-off, classic car show, arts and craft vendors, business expo, live music and kid-friendly activities, including rides. Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; race starts at 7:30 a.m. – registration required, call (714) 229-6780. Festival admission free; minimal fee for rides. Oak Knoll Park.


Annual Oxnard Salsa Festival 7/29-7/30
Get ready to sizzle at the 24th Annual Oxnard Salsa Festival, celebrating salsa food, music and dance. The event includes exciting performances, a salsa-tasting tent, a vendor marketplace, international foods, kids’ corner, a salsa recipe contest and cooking demonstrations. Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. -7 p.m. Free; concert seating, $5.


Christmas in July with KidX in Westminster 7/15
Christmas in July?! Enjoy the sights and sounds of Christmas with this free event at the Westminster Mall. (There will be free goodie bags to the first 100 kids and free games and crafts). Santa is even making an appearance! Parents can sign their children up on site. 1-3pm in front of Macy’s, lower level. Saturday, 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Wesminster Mall.


Concerts in the Canyon in Anaheim 7/13-7/27
Summer concerts and movies are a great way to get the most bang for your buck! You can check out all of our summer concerts and movies here. For this concert, bring your own picnic, blankets and chairs plus don’t miss the free games and activities! 6:30 p.m. Free. Ronald Reagan Park.

Dragons by Design in Lakewood 7/19
Master storyteller Rebecca Martin will take you on a journey of imagination into the world of dragons! Open to all ages. Wednesday, 3 p.m.-3:45 p.m. Angelo M. Iacoboni Library.


Family Art Day in Laguna 7/16
Family Art Day at the Festival of Arts is the most fun-filled, art-filled and enchantment-filled day of the entire summer for families! When kids arrive, they’ll get a booklet full of coupons redeemable for special activities and treats. Kids can participate in printmaking and mixed media art workshops, an Art Quest treasure hunt, marionette show, balloon art, hat making and more. Sunday, noon – 3 p.m. Free with festival admission; kids 12 and under are free all summer.


Family Sandcastle Building Day 7/22
Pile some sand, add some water, do a little shaping and presto! Your very own sandcastle. Bring your shovel and a bucket, and come on down for some sandy fun. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.


Free Meals for First 500 People in Honor of German Heritage Day 7/9
Enjoy an afternoon of German food, music and fun, including German folk dancers, a brass band and free Dachshund races for the entire family. First 500 guests will receive a free meal. Sunday, 2-6 p.m.


Free Movie Under the Gun at the USS Iowa 7/21
Head to the fantail of the Battleship IOWA and enjoy a screening of “The Avengers” under the guns. Remember to bring your chairs and blankets for this event, and relax as you overlook the LA waterfront. Friday, 7:30 p.m.


From Dinosaurs to People at Heritage Museum OC 7/16
Heritage Museum of Orange County teams up with The Cooper Center to present a day of archaeology and paleontology for the whole family, exploring Orange County from the prehistoric era to present day. The fun, educational event will include vendor booths, live reptiles, archaeology digs, basket weaving and displays, native hikes, blacksmith demonstrations and more. Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.


National Dance Day 7/29
It’s National Dance Day 2017! Join Kidspace for this annual celebration founded by the Dizzy Feet Foundation to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Free with admission. Kidspace Museum.


OC Fair 2017 Opening Day Freebie 7/14
With the theme “”Farm Fresh Fun,” the OC Fair offers 23 days and nights of food, rides, exhibits, animals, music, action sports, concerts and fun! On the 14th, receive free admission and parking from noon-3 p.m.


Ocean Festival in San Clemente 7/15-7/16
Celebrating 41 years, come join the fun for waterman and waterwoman competitions, surf and bodysurf contests, fishing derbies, woody car exhibit, ocean art show, a kids’ pavilion, live music and a rubber duck race for the event’s finale! Saturday, 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; Sunday, 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Free to spectate, minimal fees for contests.


Riverbed Cleanup at Etnies Skatepark 7/8
Donate your time and energy to cleaning up the riverbed and trails adjacent to Etnies Skatepark and receive a free dinner, drink and a raffle ticket for some great donated prizes. Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.


Safety Day in Westminster 7/20
This free educational event gives kids and families an opportunity to become familiar with the City’s safety staff and services, with bicycle licensing and fingerprinting, displays and exciting demonstrations by the Westminster Police Department and the Orange County Fire Authority. Thursday, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Sigler Park.


Shakespeare in the Park in Rossmoor 7/22-7/23
Gather the family, a blanket, some chairs and a picnic dinner, then settle in for Shakespeare in the Park, presented by Shakespeare by the Sea. Saturday, “Macbeth”; Sunday, “The Taming of the Shrew” 7 p.m. Rush Park.


Star Party at Griffith Observatory 7/29
Look at the sun, moon, visible planets, and other objects, try out a variety of telescopes and talk to knowledgeable amateur astronomers about the sky and their equipment. Saturday, 2-9:45 p.m.


Watermelon Festival in Pasadena 7/29-7/30
Featuring watermelon carving demonstrations and recipe contests, watermelon eating contests, seed spitting contests, wearable art contests, and more. All-day fun includes free watermelon, delicious foods, carnival rides and attractions, games, contests, entertainment, a Kids’ Zone and more. Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. Adults, $12; kids (3-12), $7; parking, free. Hansen Dam Soccer Park Complex.


World Series of Volleyball in Long Beach 7/13-7/16
The world’s greatest beach volleyball players and their fans come together for a televised tournament, plus music, food and activities. Free general admission; VIP tickets available.
