10 Ways to Slay the Boredom Dragon!

Summer is starting and the Boredom Dragon is on his way to wreak havoc on the fun and happy kids of Kidsguide! Don’t let the Boredom Dragon ruin your summer plans!

Learn how to defeat this unruly beast by achieving the skill set of expert archers, fencers, gymnasts, and more! Parents, fear not! For no matter your plan of action, Kidsguide has the list of legendary masters in all the region who are ready to take on new apprentices and entertainment that will certainly frighten the Boredom Dragon back into his dwelling.



1. Learn Fencing from Gryphon Fencing & Fitness Studio

Fencing develops stamina, discipline and coordination. Gryphon Fencing Club has a beautiful facility with state-of-the-art electronic fencing equipment. They offer fun fencing classes for kids 5+. They also offer youth, teen and adult fencing classes continuously during the year and vacation-break camps. Fencing- and archery-themed birthday parties and special events are also available. Gryphon Fencers compete locally and nationally.



2. Master Archery from El Dorado Archers

Free instruction to improve skills and consistent shooting technique (8+). Must take safety class before taking beginning class; sign up begins at 9 a.m. Advanced, 9-10:20 a.m.; beginners, 10:30-11:50 a.m.; and safety class, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Equipment provided. Park entry fee, $5-8.



3. Sail Away from Boredom at Leeway Sailing Center

Classes are offered year round for beginner to intermediate, including bay kayaking (10+) and sailing using Sabot (8+), Keelboat and Capri 14 boats (13+). Group, private or semi-private lessons are available. Visit website to register.



4. Leap and Flip Towards Fun at Kidnastics

Kidnastics has been pleased to offer quality gymnastics instruction for over 40 years. As a recreational gymnastics and competitive cheerleading facility with over 23,000 square feet of full-line gymnastics equipment and two full-size gymnastics floors, they offer nothing but the best instructional classes for your children. Here, children learn all levels of gymnastics and cheerleading. 5. Paint Like the Masters at Art Steps

Art Steps teaches realistic classical drawing and painting skills for ages four to adult. Get hands on guidance in the Yorba Linda or Mission Viejo art studios. Students receive hands-on, step-by-step guidance as they walk through lessons in a variety of subjects and media, from crayons through oil paint, gaining confidence through learning to skillfully render what they see, one step at a time.



6. Build a Contraption at Build It Workspace

Inspired by inventor and cartoonist, Rube Goldberg, campers flex their engineering muscles to build creative solutions to perform a simple task. Explore fundamental engineering concepts through hands-on challenges as you work together to build your own amazing contraptions!



7. Construct a Model Sailboat at Colorado Lagoon in Long Beach

Kids (7+) can learn how to build and race model sailboats, and participate in a closing regatta as part of the city’s International Sea Festival; June 25 – August 10, Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. $60 for the seven-week program, with an additional cost for boat-building supplies based on the size of the model.



8. Feast and Be Entertained at Medieval Times

Inside the stone walls of an 11th century-style castle, Medieval Spain comes to life as six knights, donning authentic armor, clash in a jousting tournament for the title of King’s Champion. As your family is thrilled by a rousing live jousting tournament, marvel at awe-inspiring horsemanship and falconry, and feast upon your four-course meal fit for royalty, served by Medieval Times.
