Don’t worry, you’ll get your fill of pumpkins, witches and candy later this month. Soar into October with these 10 outstanding events that don’t have a thing to do with Halloween.
October 1-31: Throughout the month of October, children 11 years old and younger receive free admission (with an adult). They’ve got special fun planned for weekends, so go wild and visit over and over again! Fun includes Dr. Zoolittle, HalGLOWeen, Zoo Character meet and greets, and more! Kids Free admission in October 2018 includes the Skyfari Tram Ride no separate ticket needed! Standard child rider policies apply. Kids can ride the Guided Bus or Kangaroo Bus for $5. Kids Free is designed to give children an opportunity to visit the Zoo and Safari Park and learn about the Earths creatures and conservation efforts underway to save them. Daily. October 6: Up to 2,000 kids ages five to twelve can race in the Aquarium Kids Fun Run. Participants will receive a commemorative marine animal medal, a finisher certificate, and free Aquarium admission (applicable to child runners only; must be accompanied by a paying adult inside the Aquarium). Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Free.
October 6-7: Celebrate Armenian culture with delicious Armenian food and homemade pastries, live music and traditional dancing, boutique shopping, raffles and kids’ games. Saturday, 4-10 p.m.; and Sunday, noon-7 p.m. $3. St. Mary Armenian Church.
October 6: The Inflatable Festival & Run is a full day of excitement for the whole family! Go-cart racing, gigantic sponge and water balloon battles, live music, bounce houses, Zorb Balls, and inflatable jousting are only a few of the action-packed activities families can expect. The festival also features a one-mile/5K course chock-full of inflatable obstacles that kids and adults can climb, bounce, and maneuver through multiple times. October 6: Wellness education and fun abound at Parenting OC’s second annual Learn & Grow event at Discovery Cube! This family-fun event will feature over 60 exhibitors focusing on health, education and special needs. New this year are free health screenings provided by Stanbridge University and Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County. Also included will be nutrition and fitness demonstrations, face painting, balloon art and strolling entertainment. And back by popular demand, children can compete in the fun and fast-paced Bubble-Dash Games, a 45-ft. inflatable obstacle course where children (5-12) can race against the clock and each other. October 13: At the center of every circus rests a 42-foot ring of thrills, laughs, and excitement. Step right into Cirque Mechanics’ world of gears, canvas, pulleys, and sawdust as they explore the lore and history of the one-ring circus creating a modern and mechanical big top experience with strongmen, acrobats, aerialists and a galloping mechanical horse! October 13: Touch-a-Truck is an interactive hands-on experience where children can learn about their favorite trucks and vehicles, honk their horns, and interact with the drivers. October 13-14: Repticon Los Angeles at Costa Mesa is a reptile event featuring vendors offering reptile pets, supplies, feeders, cages, and merchandise as well as live animal seminars and frequent free raffles for coveted prizes. Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. General admission, $12; children 12 and younger, $5; children 4 and younger, free. OC Fair and Event Center.
October 14: Celebrate pets, encourage animal awareness, and promote pet adoption at the 18th annual Bow-Wows and Meows Pet Fair! This festive event includes dog shows, food trucks, shopping, low cost vaccine clinic for dogs, a raffle, pet psychic, free photo booth, and over 200 dogs and cats available for adoption. October 19-21: The Great Pacific Airshow celebrates patriotism, adventure and technology with dozens of performers completing incredible aerobatic feats. Produced by Huntington Beach-based creative + production agency Code Four, The Great Pacific Airshow is a family-friendly, inspiring event that thrills people of all ages.The Great Pacific Airshow will take place on October 19-21, 2018. This free event is open to the public all three days. Friday, Oct. 19th is a practice day which means the performances may change from the main show on Saturday and Sunday. The flying takes place from noon – 4pm daily. The beach + street festival is open all day, the whole weekend, wrapping up around sundown.
